Delhi Court Grants Bail to Woman Accused in Alleged Fake ED Raid on Elderly Architect

A Delhi court has granted bail to a woman accused in an alleged conspiracy involving a fake Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid conducted at the residence of an 86-year-old retired architect in New Friends Colony. The court observed that the investigation against the accused had been completed and that her continued detention was not necessary at this stage of the proceedings.

The case relates to an incident in which individuals allegedly impersonated ED officials and entered the complainant’s residence under the guise of conducting an official search. According to the prosecution, the accused persons intimidated the occupants of the house and allegedly attempted to cheat the elderly victim through a carefully planned operation.

The accused, Pooja Rajput, was arrested during the investigation. The prosecution claimed that she was connected to the conspiracy and pointed to certain articles recovered from her residence. However, the defence argued that she was not the principal offender, no direct recovery was made from her, and she had already spent a considerable period in custody.

While considering the bail application, the court noted that the chargesheet had already been filed and the investigation concerning Rajput was complete. It further observed that the recovered items were allegedly linked to another accused who had already been arrested.

Taking these circumstances into account, the court held that no useful purpose would be served by keeping Rajput in judicial custody. She was granted bail subject to furnishing a bond of ₹25,000 along with two sureties and compliance with conditions imposed by the court.
